NEW GUIDELINES IN ALBERTA FOR INSURANCE AND CLAIMS
Effective January 1, 2022, Alberta implemented Direct Compensation for Property Damage (DCPD). DCPD means that drivers claim from their own insurer instead of claiming for vehicle damage from the at-fault driver's insurance. DCPD will only cover the damage for which the driver is not at fault.
In Alberta, you should call the police to report a car accident if:
-
Anyone is injured
-
The damage is $5,000 or more
-
You are the victim of a hit-and-run
-
A driver is missing documentation like a driver's license, registration, or insurance
-
One or more of the vehicles is not drivable
Do You Have to Use the Vehicle Repair Shop Recommended by Your Insurance Company?
No. You don't have to use the vehicle repair shop recommended by the insurance company. Most insurance agencies have fixed contracts with different auto body shops in the region. A lifetime guarantee is offered to these body shops. In return the insurance company requests for lower labour, material costs and parts discounts with the vehicle repair shops. Insurance agencies would prefer that in any event, 40 percent of their cases should go to their direct repair shops. To complete the entire insurance process on time and within budget, turn to A-Canadian Autobody, we have shop estimators who are systematically interested and dedicated to handling your claims and well versed with the insurance process.
In the Event of Accident Does the Insurance Company Pay Me or the Repair Shop?
Once you have covered the deductibles (if it applies), the insurance will cover the collision cost.
Questions to Ask Yourself
Here are some points to think about before opting for an auto repair shop.
Whether lifetime warranties are offered by the shop?
Have they got the experience working on your type of vehicle?
When did they start their business?
Have they previously worked with your insurance company?
Will the estimate go up once the repairs have started?
